On a bitterly cold morning Wombwell hosted a nine man Walton side and recorded a comprehensive victory.
It was always going to be an uphill task for Walton with eleven players, but with only nine on the field they had their backs to the wall most of the game, they defended well for the first five minutes but a scrappy goal led to the Wombwell opener with Jake White tapping in a Dylon Dyson cross. The second was soon to follow with the fired up Ryan Camplin winning a ball on the edge of his own box and freeing Jake White who raced 30 yards and his cross/shot went in via the keepers’ knee to make it his brace. Another scramble in the box led to number three when Dylon Dyson found the top corner following up Newricks blocked shot. Walton bravely kept several attacks at bay but were helpless to prevent the fourth, provided by yet another quality Jacob Atkinson cross with Jack Outhwaite heading home for the second week in a row. Another winning tackle by Camplin was played wide for Atkinson who was yet again provider for the next, firing in a cross for Kahl Newrick to blast home, 5-0. With half time approaching Wombwell scored their sixth, after great play on the left by Atkinson, a pass saw Jake White square for Kahl Newrick to notch his second of the game. Half time saw Luke Stanley in goal replaced by Daniel Speight and Sam Hutton introduced for Kahl Newrick. The tricky winger Hutton sparked to life, his cross found Jacob Atkinson and his shot nestled in the corner to give him a well earned goal to make it seven. With the Wolves still showing some resilience Wombwell were tested when a poor clearance was fired towards goal but was saved by Speight. Time for Luke Stanley to get in on the act and he did, finishing off a slide rule pass from Dylon Dyson. Number nine was arguably goal of the game when a superb through ball by stand in Captain Jack Outhwaite found the reintroduced Newrick whose excellent finish completed his hatrick. With time running out Man of the match Jake White also completed his hatrick latching on to a Luke Stanley pass and finding the corner, final score 10-0 Wombwell.
Not a lot can be said about this morning, playing against nine was unfortunate and credit to Walton and especially their keeper who battled on to the end, even so it was nice to see the boys in good form for next weeks cup game with Durkar which will surely be a thriller!
